GRUNION’S GOLF CLUB RULES AND POLICES
A bulletin board for the club will be maintained near the entrance to Grunion’s and will contain a membership listing with handicap indices, tournament announcements, sign-up sheets, starting times, tournament results. Tournament sign-ups:
Each tournament will be announces on the bulletin board at Grunion’s and on the Grunion’s Golf Club website. Each tournament will have a deadline date associated with it. To enter a tournament, you must fill out a tournament sign-up sheet and return it along with full payment prior to the deadline. If a tournament becomes overbooked, those who entered earliest will be able to play. Most tournaments will be on courses that require everyone to ride, but if the option to walk is available, specify on the sign-up be sure to specify desired roommates (if any) and the type of accommodations. You can also list with whom you would like to play and we will try to take that into account when setting up the foursomes. Members will be given first priority until the deadline date, after which, guests will be welcome. Remember that you are not signed up for a tournament until your sign-up sheet and your entrance fee have been turned in. Verbal requests will not be taken.
Cancellations:
If you cancel before the deadline, you will receive a credit or a refund (your choice). If you cancel after the deadline, you will be refunded only if you find a replacement or if someone else signs up to take your place. If you have to cancel at the last minute, you will be refunded only if the course does not charge us.
Entry fees: This fee covers what we must pay the course, prize money and operating expenses (if any) for that tournament. If carts are included, it will be stated in the tournament announcement and the fees will include the cart. If carts are optional, you will pay the course on the day of the tournament.
Rules:
USGA rules will apply to all of our tournaments. Even though the idea is to have fun, we will play by the rules. This means no "gimme" putts and no winter rules (unless specified at tournament time). All members should know the basic rules, but if a situation comes up for which you are not sure how to proceed, then you must do the following. Announce that you will be paying two balls and which one you desire to count. Then finish the hole with both balls and check with the tournament director or rules committee after finishing your round, but prior to signing your scorecard. Everyone should carry a rules book with him or her – they are cheap. Also feel free to ask another player about the rules – this is not considered asking for advice.
Betting:
The betting is open to all players including any guest. The money returned will be based on the number of people betting on the winners. Only first place will be paid. Individual and team events will be net scores. Skins will be either gross and/or net. Please put your name or initials in the proper place and make sure they are legible – if we can’t figure them out, you lose.
X-Out on a hole:
You must pick up on any hole and enter your score for that hole based on your maximum allowable score. Place an X by the score for that hole on the scorecard. You will be disqualified from the individual stroke play portion of the tournament, but will still be entitled to participate in any of the special parts (skins, closest to the pin, long drive, team event, etc.).
Dress Code:
Some municipal courses and all privately owned daily fee courses have dress codes which require shirts with collars, at least knee length shorts and no denim of any kind. Keep this in mind or you will be spending money in their pro shop.
Check-in time:
You should check in at least 20 minutes prior to your tee time. If you plan to do any betting, you must arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the tournament directors tee time. Do not show up simply expecting to play; make sure you have a spot or that there is a cancellation that you can fill.
Pace of play:
You are required to keep up with the group in front of you. If you fall so far behind that the marshal gets on your case, then you could be given a two-stroke penalty.
Score cards:
Each foursome will complete two score cards throughout the round. These should be checked for accuracy on completion of the round. One card shall then be signed by at least two members other group prior to turning it in. The first initial and last name of the players should be legibly entered on the card. The handicaps should be included along with both the gross and net scores. You are not eligible to participate in a tournament without an established handicap index.
Posting:
All rounds played anywhere by any member of this golf club must be posted, including all rounds played with this golf club. Post your scores at the course. Remember to adjust your scores so that no score on any hole is larger than what you are allowed to take. If you cannot post at the course, then our club allows you to post on the Internet at www.scga.org Otherwise, you can turn in the card to the handicap chairman and he or she will post it for you. You must indicate which tees you played. If you do not have the card, you can contact the handicap chairman and give him or her the date, course, slope, rating and adjusted score. All of our tournaments are considered to be play days and not entered as tournament scores, except for the tournament of champions, the four-ball championship and the club championship. These three will be entered as tournament scores. Failure to post a score may be dealt with by the posting of a penalty score.
Conduct:
It is expected that everyone will conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner. Such conduct as arguing with a marshal or any member of the course staff will not be tolerated, as we may want to play there again. Members should not be abusive to other members of our club, created an embarrassing public disturbance, break the rules, and manipulate their handicap index either by not posting scores, posting the wrong scores, or taking excess strokes on purpose. The club reserves the right to return a prorated portion of the annual dues and terminate the person’s membership.
Club championship:
You are eligible to play for the club championship if you have played in a minimum of four events during the year. This club championship will be a 36-hole stroke play event.
